CRU London is very proud to announce that its bags can now be found in the Swiss capital city of Berne.
As of September a small selection of our bags including the Hooper, Malcolm and Leonard backpacks in a range of water-repellent cotton canvas, full-grain leather and suede are now available in a beautiful independent boutique, Die Damen.
It is situated in one of the most charming areas of Berne, on Kramgasse, the main street which runs through the old city region. One kilometre east the street becomes the Nydeggbrüche passing across the River Aare to the eastern edge of the city, passing the renowned tourist attraction, Bärengraben or Bear Pit, housing live bears since 1513.
As the story goes, the legend of the bear dates back to 1191 when Duke Berthold the Fifth swore to name his newly discovered town after the first animal that he would slay in the surrounding forest. And that is how the city of Berne was born, meaning bear in Swiss.
The town embraced this bear-centric view and thought that it was only fair that a town named Berne actually had some bears living within its borders. So to this day, the city is smothered in bears of all kinds, from the live ones that remain in its pit to the typical memorabilia found in tourist shops.
It will definitely go down as one of the most fascinating cities we visited this year, and we hope that this is only the start of our journey in Switzerland. It looks promising, so as always we will keep you informed on all our progress.
Until then, wishing you a very good autumn!
